Job summary

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain tooling applications and deployment pipelines. The role focuses on building automation, improving reliability, and supporting both internal and external software products.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in a Linux-based DevOps environment, hands-on CI/CD, monitoring, and IaC experience, and strong collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience in a Linux-based DevOps or software development environment.
• Hands-on experience building, supporting, and administering enterprise tooling (CI/CD, log analysis, monitoring).
• Experience with Kubernetes-based tooling and cloud environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with minimal oversight.
• Ability to work under pressure during incident response and manage competing priorities.
• Willingness to pair program and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain reusable, high-quality code for tooling apps and deployment pipelines.
• Build expertise in tooling platforms, troubleshoot issues, improve reliability, and drive enhancements.
• Drive automation to accelerate delivery and reduce manual work.
• Provide operational support for internal and external software products, improving uptime and speed to market.
• Prioritize requests from cross-functional partners and plan development work with leadership.
