Job summary

Thrive Market is seeking a Senior Engineer – Product Engineering in the United States to develop REST and JSON API services for new customer experiences and to decompose services into scalable microservices. You will build systems that scale horizontally with low latency, using technologies like Golang, Python, PHP, Java, AWS, and Kafka.

You will practice test‑driven development, instrument meaningful metrics, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and innovate around

Qualifications

• 5+ years developing end-to-end high-traffic cross‑platform sites.
• Experience with Java, Python, and PHP.
• Working knowledge of Linux, relational & NoSQL databases, serverless.
• Understand tradeoffs between architecture choices and various DB technologies.
• Working knowledge of AWS services – Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, etc.
• Experience in building n-tier apps that can support millions of transactions per day.
• Shipped multiple high-impact use cases in a high-traffic product.
• Understand scaling and performance in a microservice architecture.
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools like New Relic.

Responsibilities

• Develop REST and JSON API services for new customer experiences.
• Decompose existing services into scalable microservices where needed.
• Build services that scale horizontally and provide low uniform latency.
• Test‑driven development from the start, to protect customer experience and build speed and reliability.
• Incorporate meaningful metrics into new services and functionality you build and evangelize them.
• Work with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot issues and restore function.
• Work closely with the product team and innovate ideas for architecture and code design.
• Enforce best practices and process enforcement.
• Level up the team by planning & assigning tasks, challenging them to raise the bar.
• Own the SLA(s) around APIs owned by their pod, know what’s in class, and raise the bar.
