Job summary

McAfee is seeking a Lead Application Platform Engineer to architect and chair platform solutions across product teams in a fast-paced setting. You will set technical direction, define patterns, runbooks, and cost models, and act as the escalation point for production and architecture issues while mentoring several engineers.

This role requires deep expertise in Go, Python, and Node.js/TypeScript, plus AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD tooling.

Qualifications

• 9+ years in software or platform engineering with hands-on coding.
• Ownership of architecture patterns adopted by teams.
• Experience operating high-traffic distributed systems in production.
• Mentoring and setting technical standards across teams.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, and Node.js/TypeScript; strong in a third language.
• Deep AWS experience (EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC) and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of multi-cloud patterns (GCP) and IaC at scale.
• CI/CD automation with GitHub Actions and Harness; data security tooling.

Responsibilities

• Embed with multiple product groups while maintaining a platform perspective.
• Own and evolve reference architectures with IaC, runbooks, and cost models.
• Escalation point for production problems; lead incident responses with SRE.
• Set platform standards for review, testing, instrumentation, and readiness.
• Mentor 2–4 engineers and onboard new hires into domains and codebases.
• Represent constraints in architecture discussions with leadership; influence roadmaps.
• Drive structural fixes after incidents; oversee root-cause analysis and preventive actions.
• Evaluate tooling, including AI-assisted development and test tools, for team adoption.
• Design multi-service architectures and reason about failure modes and costs.
• Lead capacity and scalability analysis; interpret profiling data to locate bottlenecks.
