Job summary

Target seeks a Senior Engineer for the CircleCard Platform to design and build scalable backend services and AI-ready capabilities. You will architect REST/GraphQL APIs, event-driven integrations with Kafka, and distributed data processing across high-volume workloads.

You will lead design discussions, improve observability, and collaborate with Product Management, UX, Architecture, and Data teams. Hybrid work arrangements apply with on-site MinnesotaHQ collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience building enterprise-scale distributed applications.
• Strong fundamentals; production systems experience.
• Expert in Kotlin and/or Java with Micronaut or Spring Boot.
• Experience designing REST/GraphQL APIs and microservices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable platform capabilities and backend services.
• Create secure, high-performance APIs for retail and financial workloads.
• Develop event-driven integrations, webshooks, and asynchronous services with Kafka.
• Design distributed systems with caching and cloud-native patterns.
• Lead architectural reviews, code reviews, and planning.
