Job summary

Two Six Technologies is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead the development and maintenance of core data-migration tooling, API wrappers, and shared backend infrastructure. You will focus on developer experience, treating data frameworks as an internal product and enabling autonomous stream-aligned teams.

The role reports to the Engineering Manager and is based in our Arlington, VA office on a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite).

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years of Python development experience.
• 3+ years of experience configuring and working with relational databases.
• 2+ years of experience designing, implementing, or supporting structural data migrations.
• Experience in Unix/Linux environments.
• Experience building and troubleshooting containerized apps using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience using Git and Jira within an agile workflow.
• Demonstrated passion for learning and ability to understand unfamiliar codebases.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of platform services and backend infrastructure packages.
• Deliver tools as a service by packaging core utilities as versioned internal packages.
• Maintain code quality through thorough reviews of InnerSource PRs.
• Modernize infrastructure by migrating internal tooling from Docker to Kubernetes.
• Enforce automated guardrails with schema validation and database linting in CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to develop technical estimates and requirements.
• Troubleshoot production issues by analyzing logs, schemas, and performance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship across the organization.

Overview of Opportunity

Two Six Technologies is looking for aSenior Platform Engineer to join our foundation team as we scale our engineering organization and adopt a modern framework built around cross-functional, full-stack autonomous teams. This role will lead the development, maintenance, and support of our core internal data-migration tooling, API wrappers, and shared backend infrastructure packages.

The Senior Platform Engineer will report directly to the Engineering Manager and serve as a senior technical partner to the Platform Team Lead. Your primary focus is developer experience. You will treat our shared data frameworks as an internal product, building reliable, versioned tools that allow our stream-aligned feature teams to safely manage their own schemas and API integration layers without hitting deployment bottlenecks.

This is a full-time, hybrid position that requires work at our office three days per week from our Arlington, VA location.

Responsibilities

• Take Technical Ownership of Platform Services: Drive the development, maintenance, and production support of our shared backend infrastructure packages and core data-migration suites. This includes working extensively with:
  • Python and related data processing frameworks
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Postgres, advanced SQL, and data modeling frameworks
  • FastAPI and secure API gateway utilities
• Deliver Tools as a Service: Package core backend and database utilities into versioned, independently hosted internal packages, allowing feature teams to easily upgrade or revert versions to stay unblocked.
• Maintain Code Quality and Integrity: Conduct thorough code reviews on incoming InnerSource pull requests submitted by feature developers, ensuring platform extensions remain reliable and well-architected.
• Modernize Infrastructure: Lead the migration of internal platform tooling from Docker to Kubernetes to optimize system scalability.
• Enforce Automated Guardrails: Collaborate with our infrastructure engineers to integrate automated schema validation and database linting tools directly into our monorepo CI/CD pipelines.
• Support Stakeholders and Estimates: Partner with Product Managers and Team Leads to develop technical estimates and requirement specifications for complex engineering needs.
• Investigate System Behavior: Troubleshoot production issues by analyzing logs, schemas, and system performance; form testable hypotheses to resolve underlying architectural bottlenecks.
• Provide Technical Guidance: Serve as a technical mentor for other engineers across the organization, actively contributing to our internal Architecture Guild to align team standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of Python development experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience configuring and working with relational databases.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience designing, implementing, or supporting structural data migrations.
• Experience developing software in a Unix or Linux environment.
• Experience building, running, and troubleshooting containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience using Git and Jira within an agile development workflow.
• Demonstrated passion for learning and the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar codebases.
• Strong analytical troubleshooting skills and the ability to ask effective technical questions of engineers and product managers.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain up to a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
