Job summary

Kargo, a leading advertising technology company, seeks a Principal Engineer in New York. You will define multi-year technical direction across Workflow, Self-Service Agentic Ad Buying, and Creative Hub, owning architectural decisions and building scalable, distributed systems.

Qualifications

12+ years in software engineering, including senior IC scope (Staff/Principal).
Hands-on experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale (event streaming, async messaging).
Experience building LLM-backed or agentic systems in production with evaluation and reliability focus.
Strong proficiency in TypeScript or Go; deep knowledge of CI/CD, containers, and cloud infrastructure.
Proven ability to influence technically across an organization and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

Set and socialize target architecture across multiple teams (Workflow, Self-Service Agentic Ad Buying, Creative Hub).
Provide architectural direction, design reviews, and unblock concurrent initiatives.
Own high-consequence decisions on service boundaries and integration patterns; say no when needed.
Define how to build LLM-backed features with evals, guardrails, and latency budgets.
Mentor senior engineers and raise interview bar with coaching and pairing.
Identify shared patterns and infrastructure across domains to avoid duplication.
Translate business strategy into technical strategy and assess technical risk.
