Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior controls engineering leader to drive extended-scope projects in gas turbine and power-plant environments. You will guide hardware design, software development, commissioning, and operation across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with safety, reliability, and performance requirements.

You will coordinate with project managers, travel up to 15%, and lead customer discussions while maintaining global control-system architectures and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or related Engineering.
  • 10+ years in combined cycle power plant industry.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Experience with GE power generation controls and related systems.
  • Experience in power generation requisition, customer engagement, and project management.
  • Ability to drive projects to completion and lead diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead extended-scope controls engineering projects from kickoff to commissioning.
  • Support design, validation and commissioning of control systems for gas turbines and HRSG.
  • Define and manage system requirements including safety, reliability and performance.
  • Coordinate with project managers on schedules and cost roll-ups.
  • Lead customer discussions and reviews.
  • Drive architecture, top-level design, verification, and commissioning requirements.

Job description

  • Lead extended-scope controls engineering projects from kick-off through hardware design, software development, commissioning, and commercial plant operation
  • Support requisition, design, structuring, validation, and commissioning of control systems for gas turbines, bottoming cycle systems (HRSG and steam turbine), and balance of plant
  • Compile project-level controls strategies and document requirements
  • Lead design and implementation of controls system projects across multiple projects/programs
  • Make independent project-level decisions and own high-risk, complex projects from ITO through COD
  • Support ITO and proposal efforts
  • Lead work using an Agile software methodology
  • Support and influence product requirements definition
  • Define and manage overall control system requirements globally
  • Drive architecture, top-level design, verification, validation, and commissioning requirements
  • Define and manage system function, performance, interface, reliability, maintainability, and safety requirements
  • Support and influence test plans for system verification and validation, software acceptance tests, site pre-operation, startup, and commissioning
  • Coordinate internal and external customer requirements and tasks
  • Partner with Project Managers on project baseline master schedules and cost roll-ups
  • Lead customer discussions and reviews
  • Drive consistent solutions across gas turbine, steam turbine, HRSG, BOP, and electrical controls
  • Lead fulfillment teams and collaborate with internal GE groups and external customers
  • Manage controls cost and schedule targets with functional managers
  • Communicate clearly with the team and business leaders
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or related Engineering field from an accredited college or university
  • 10+ years work experience in the combined cycle power plant industry
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Experience in design and application of GE power generation controls, electrical, or accessory systems
  • Experience in power generation requisition, working with customers, project management, or EPCs
  • System integration experience
  • Proven oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Gas Turbine experience; GE Mark Vie preferred
  • Steam Turbine and/or Plant controls knowledge/experience
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive projects to completion
  • Demonstrated technical writing expertise
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership of a diverse team
  • Opportunity may see up to 15% travel for US candidates
