Job summary
CJ Schwan’s in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer to lead electrical, automation, and control systems across our food manufacturing operations. You will work with limited supervision to develop, implement, and support automation initiatives that align with the plant's strategic objectives while ensuring safe, reliable production processes.
The role requires hands-on leadership, PLC/HMI/SCADA expertise, and collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering,
Qualifications
- ABET-accredited engineering degree preferred.
- 5+ years in automation, controls, or electrical engineering in manufacturing.
- Experience with plant operations in fast-paced environments.
- Proven track record leading automation projects from concept to startup.
Responsibilities
- Lead automation and controls projects from concept through implementation and startup.
- Provide technical leadership for PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- Develop strategies for controls, industrial networks, and plant automation.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Safety and Sanitation teams.
- Maintain technical documentation and control system records.
- Mentor Controls Technicians and maintenance personnel.
