Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Senior Plant Accountant role involves overseeing financial operations within the plant, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing critical financial insights to support operational decision-making. Requires expertise in financial reporting, cost management, and accounting systems in manufacturing industry environment. This position is expected to contribute technical accounting skills and analytical capabilities to the Plant management team and provide expertise in assessing plant financial performance, product costing and cost reduction initiatives.

This role is integral to maintaining the integrity of our financial operations while supporting strategic growth initiatives within the Company’s manufacturing sector. Requires a dedicated professional eager to leverage their expertise in a collaborative team setting that values accuracy, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Cost Accounting

• Setting, revising and maintaining standard costs of manufactured goods
• Developing and analyzing cost standards by collecting and analyzing data about a company’s operational processes and costs
• Conduct cost accounting analysis to assess and compile manufacturing costs, identify variances, and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
• Track and analyze actual manufacturing, labor, material, and overhead costs compared to system standards.
• Complete product profitability analysis
• Inventory Management: Oversee physical inventory counts, reconcile inventory subledgers, and calculate obsolescence reserves.
• Identify cost reduction opportunities and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
• Recommend changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit

Plant Financial Reporting & Accounting

• Manage plant general ledger accounting activities, including account reconciliation, journal entries, and month-end closing processes.
• Variance Reporting: Conduct variance analysis to explain differences between budgeted and actual revenues and costs.
• Complete monthly reports and monthly financial reporting packages which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position based on past, present and expected operations.
• Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial transactions.
• Responsible for tracking capital projects (including spending vs plan), capitalization of the fixed assets, recording FA dispositions, determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
• Work in tandem with plant management to prepare the annual plant budget, plant forecasts,

Management

• Utilize business intelligence tools and Excel data analysis techniques to interpret financial reports and support strategic planning.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial concepts, software updates, and industry best practices relevant to manufacturing finance.
• Able to plan and interfaces with Chief Financial Officer, Plant Manager, Group Controller, Manufacturing Personnel, and staff functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
• 3-5 years related experience in a manufacturing environment with concentration in Plant and/or Cost Accounting
• Extensive accounting experience within the manufacturing industry is required, with strong knowledge of cost management and cost accounting analysis.
• Demonstrated expertise in financial report writing, data analysis skills using Excel (including Excel data analysis), and business intelligence tools.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as QAD, SAP, Sage or similar ERP systems.
• Technical accounting skills in account reconciliation and cost analysis.
• Knowledge of GAAP principles, technical accounting standards and financial concepts such as debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, and account reconciliation.
