Job summary

County of Maui's Planning Department seeks a Planner IV to assist in designing and developing comprehensive planning projects, including zoning, land use, and urban renewal efforts on Maui.

Your role involves researching socio-economic and physical data, supervising data collection, and preparing technical reports, maps, and presentations to support plans; you may liaise with government and business officials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning or related field; and 2.5 years of research/analytical experience.
• Experience involving review and processing of complex plans for zoning, land use, or development regulations.
• Master's degree substitutions may extend or credit related experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development and processing of developmental and general plans, involving present and future zoning, land use, housing, recreation, transportation, urban renewal, capital improvement programs, and other planning areas.
• Analyses socio-economic, demographic and physical data and reports to recommend proper zoning and land use.
• Plan and supervise the conduct of data collection surveys for sound planning.
• Conduct analytical studies to establish standards of measurement relating to land use mixes and trends.
• Prepare technical reports, maps, graphs, and other presentations to support plans.
• Interview governmental and business officials for factual information and judgments related to the assigned study.
• Evaluate data or new concepts and prepare interpretive reports for local application.
• May liaison between the department and external planning groups on assigned projects.
