Job summary

City of Concord is seeking a Principal Planner in the Community Development Department to lead current development and long-range planning initiatives, supervise staff, and guide policy implementation.

The ideal candidate has extensive project management experience, expertise in housing policy and General Plan amendments, and the ability to coordinate with multiple departments and stakeholders to advance municipal planning goals.

Qualifications

• Eight years of professional planning experience in general plan, zoning or development services.
• Experience managing complex development projects and policies for public agencies, especially housing.
• Experience with General Plan amendments and rezoning.
• Ability to manage multiple projects within budgets and timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee current development and long-range planning projects.
• Provide management-level supervision to assigned staff on planning projects.
• Assist with day-to-day management of the Planning Division.
• Support Housing Element programs and housing policy implementation.
