Job summary

The City of Concord is seeking a Principal Planner to lead current development and long-range planning efforts in the Community Development Department. You will oversee projects, guide policy development, and supervise planning staff to ensure timely delivery and alignment with city goals.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience managing complex development projects, knowledge of General Plan amendments and housing programs, and strong communication skills for collaboration with officials,

Qualifications

• Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in City Planning or a closely related field.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Eight years professional planning experience involving general plan, zoning or development services.

Responsibilities

• Oversee or directly manage current development and long-range planning projects, public policy development, and implementation of various policies and programs.
• Provide management-level supervision to assigned staff on current development and long-range/policy projects.
• Coordinate housing element programs and development code updates to stay compliant with state law (e.g. SB 9) and city needs.
• Lead or support cannabis regulations and agreements as applicable.
• Present plans and recommendations to City Council, Planning Commission, and other bodies; engage with stakeholders and the public.
