Job summary

The City of Houston's Office of the City Attorney seeks a planning and development attorney to handle matters related to Houston planning and development rules, especially in the absence of zoning provisions.

You will manage high-level real-estate transactions, advise commissions, and participate in ethics workshops; candidates should have extensive experience in planning and development law and be licensed in Texas.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of the Texas State Bar; eligible for admission to Federal court.
  • Texas license to practice law must be current as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage high-level, complex real-estate transactions and related matters (land sales, acquisitions, eminent domain, leases, encroachments).
  • Handle planning and development issues, including land use regulations, historic preservation, TIRZ and economic development agreements.
  • Attend commission meetings to provide legal advice.
  • Conduct an annual Ethics Workshop for commissions (Planning, Archeological & Historical, Historic Preservation Appeals Board, Tower Commission, and related bodies).
