Job summary

Belmont is seeking a Civil/Urban Planner to perform responsible planning work in land use and zoning administration. The role involves reviewing applications, preparing reports, and advising on development regulations. You will help maintain the Comprehensive Plan and participate in public meetings.

The position requires a Bachelor's in planning or related field, with five years of experience; a driver’s license and AICP certification are strongly preferred. Occasional remote work is permitted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in planning, public administration, architecture, geography or a closely related field.
• Senior Planners require five years of progressively responsible planning experience; Master’s may reduce experience.
• Must possess or obtain NC driver’s license within four months; at least one planning certification; AICP certification is preferred.
• Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to communicate clearly, work independently or in a team, and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and respond to project applications for compliance and optimization.
• Write and present formal and technical reports and planning documents.
• Develop and update ordinances and land development regulations.
• Assist with Comprehensive Plan updates and zoning inspections.
• Attend public meetings in evenings and assist staff with varied duties.
