Job summary

City of Newport News is seeking a Senior Planner to lead current planning and urban design efforts under general supervision. This position serves as a lead worker and reports to the Manager of Current Planning.

The role involves analyzing projects, reviewing site plans for compliance with design guidelines, coordinating with developers and architects, and preparing recommendations for zoning actions and city councils.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of municipal planning processes for development and redevelopment.
• Knowledge of city ordinances, codes and regulations relating to planning and urban design.
• Strong interpersonal or customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes planning projects and prepares recommendations.
• Reviews design and site plans for conformance with urban design, architectural or landscape guidelines.
• Coordinates with developers and architects on new projects.
• Represent the Planning Department on committees and boards and review design guidelines.
• Prepares summaries and recommendations for zoning applications and planning actions.
