Job summary

Village of Carpentersville is seeking a full-time Senior Planner in the Community Development Department. The role covers zoning administration, development review, and land use planning, with duties in permit processing and code compliance. You will work with residents, businesses, and officials and may supervise staff or consultants.

A Bachelor's Degree in urban planning or related field is required, with 3–5 years of experience and strong zoning knowledge. Valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• At least three to five years of progressively responsible experience in the planning field.
• Strong understanding of general zoning principles, standards, and laws; knowledge of current and long-range planning processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional planning work related to zoning administration, development review, and land use planning.
• Assist with permit review, processing, and code compliance activities as needed.
• Serve as liaison to Planning and Zoning Commission and coordinate with staff, officials, and developers.
• Supervise consultants, interns, or temporary staff when assigned.
• Prepare technical reports, resolutions, and ordinances.
