Job summary

The City of Wood Dale is seeking a full-time Planner to join the Community Development Department. The Planner performs professional planning work related to zoning administration, development review, land use planning, and community development.

This position works closely with residents, businesses, developers, property owners, City staff, boards and commissions, and elected officials. The Planner will assist with development applications, zoning and land use reviews, staff reports, planning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning or closely related field is required.
  • One to three years of progressively responsible experience in the planning field is required.
  • AICP certification is preferred.
  • A Master’s Degree may be substituted for one year of planning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review zoning, special use, variation, subdivision, site plan, and other development applications for compliance with City regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of the City's Comprehensive Plan, Vision Plan, Thorndale Corridor Plan, and other planning initiatives.
  • Prepare staff reports, presentations, maps, and meeting materials for City Council, boards, commissions, and committees.
  • Serve as staff liaison to assigned boards and commissions and assist with public meetings and development proposals.
  • Assist with processing and managing property maintenance and sign code cases.
  • Assist with economic development initiatives and provide planning and zoning information to residents, businesses, developers, and the general public.
  • Conduct research, field visits, and analysis related to zoning, land use, development, and community planning and other duties as assigned.

The position also provides technical assistance regarding zoning requirements, development procedures, and City regulations.Work for this position includes, but is not limited to:Review zoning, special use, variation, subdivision, site plan, and other development applications for compliance with City regulations.Assist with the preparation and implementation of the City's Comprehensive Plan, Vision Plan, Thorndale Corridor Plan, and other planning initiatives.Prepare staff reports, presentations, maps, and meeting materials for City Council, boards, commissions, and committees.Serve as staff liaison to assigned boards and commissions and assist with public meetings and development proposals.Assist with processing and managing property maintenance and sign code cases.Assist with economic development initiatives and provide planning and zoning information to residents, businesses, developers, and the general public.Conduct research, field visits, and analysis related to zoning, land use, development, and community planning and other duties as assigned.A Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning or closely related field is required.
