Job summary

Horry County is seeking a Senior Planner to lead long-range planning tasks, maintain the Comprehensive Plan, and develop area and community planning documents. The role involves coordinating with county staff, boards, and community partners while preparing technical memos and presentations.

The position requires independent work within a multidisciplinary team, strong written and oral communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects and meetings, including some evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• The candidate must hold a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
• ArcGIS and/or Adobe Creative Suite experience or willingness to learn within one year of employment.
• Willing to furnish writing and mapping samples at time of interview.
• Must pass pre-employment physical and background check.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced professional work related to a variety of planning assignments.
• Manage complex planning studies and development applications.
• Review and process complex projects related to the Comprehensive Plan.
• Coordinate planning activities, capital planning and Transportation Plans.
• Prepare Planning & Zoning staff reports and present findings to boards.
• Attend evening and weekend meetings as needed.
• Communicate effectively with staff, boards, commissions, and the public.
