Job summary

Greenville County is seeking a Long-Range Planner II to lead community, neighborhood, and area planning projects as project manager and lead author for assigned plans.

You will engage residents, stakeholders, elected officials, and County staff; researching demographics, land use, and growth conditions; preparing reports, maps, and presentations; developing goals, objectives, and land use strategies; and presenting plans to the Planning Commission and County Council.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning or related field.
• Three years of professional experience in community, comprehensive, land use, or corridor planning.
• Lead author or project manager on at least one plan or public deliverable.
• Proficient in ArcGIS Pro for spatial analysis and map production.
• Ability to present findings to non-technical audiences and manage public engagements.
• Valid Driver's License.

Job Summary: Greenville County is hiring a Long-Range Planner II to lead community, neighborhood, and area planning projects, serving as project manager and lead author for assigned plans. Responsibilities include engaging community residents, stakeholders, elected officials, and County staff; researching demographics, land use, and growth conditions; preparing reports, maps, and presentations; developing goals, objectives, and land use strategies; and presenting plans to the Planning Commission and County Council. The position also designs and facilitates public engagement, including community meetings, workshops, and charrettes; prepares plain-language materials for non-technical audiences; translates adopted plan recommendations into zoning overlay standards and regulatory amendments; supports the 10-year update and 5-year review of the County Comprehensive Plan; performs research and spatial analysis using ArcGIS Pro; and coordinates with County departments, municipalities, and partner agencies. Requires availability for evening meetings and occasional weekend community events. Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, landscape architecture, geography, architecture, environmental design, public administration, civil engineering, or a related field required; supplemented by three years of progressively responsible professional experience in community, comprehensive, land use, or corridor planning; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must have served as lead author or project manager on at least one completed plan, corridor study, master plan, or comparable document-scale public deliverable. Must be proficient in ArcGIS Pro sufficient to independently perform spatial analysis and produce publication-quality map products without technical support. Must be able to prepare written planning documents and present technical findings to non-technical audiences. Valid Driver’s License required.

Salary Range: DOQ – Starting at $62,671.14
