Job summary

The Town of Vail, Colorado is seeking an experienced Senior Planner to oversee complex development review projects, guide long-range planning, and help preserve the mountain character that defines Vail.

Reporting to the Planning Manager, the Senior Planner will lead planning applications, coordinate projects, and provide technical recommendations to staff, boards, and the public. Qualifications include a relevant degree, 6–8 years in municipal planning, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Land Use Planning, Urban Design, or a closely related field.
• 6–8 years of progressively responsible planning experience, preferably in municipal government.
• Thorough knowledge of planning principles, zoning regulations, land development, and public administration.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Master's degree in Planning or related field.
• AICP Certification.
• Working knowledge of Colorado land use law.
• GIS experience and familiarity with development review software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex development review applications and long-range planning projects.
• Coordinate planning projects and provide professional recommendations.
• Serve as a technical resource for Town staff, boards, commissions, applicants, and the public.
• Prepare and evaluate policy recommendations, zoning amendments, and special planning projects.
• Foster collaboration across departments while providing exceptional customer service.
