Job summary

The City of Arlington is seeking a Planning Manager to oversee planning staff and lead long-range and current planning efforts. You will coordinate with departments, present staff reports, and supervise complex projects to ensure adherence to city policies.

You will supervise multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets, and negotiate consultant contracts, while guiding zoning and development decisions with public input.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field plus six (6) years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with four (4) years and supervisory experience.
• AICP required within two (2) years of employment.
• Knowledge of zoning, land-use, and urban development laws and practices.
• Experience negotiating consultant contracts and managing complex procurement.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planners and planning teams for long-range and current planning activities.
• Prepare and present staff reports, ordinance revisions, and zoning guidance.
• Negotiate consultant contracts and supervise plan development and documentation.
• Lead planning efforts in comprehensive plans, development reviews, and hearings.
