Job summary

E2 Consulting Engineers, LP seeks a Pipeline / Instrumentation & Controls Principal Engineer to support natural gas utility and energy infrastructure projects across Southern California. You will contribute to planning, design, execution, and commissioning of pipelines, regulator stations, gas control, automation, and remote monitoring systems.

The candidate will bring experience in natural gas transmission/distribution, instrumentation, control systems, and SCADA integration.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
10+ years of experience in natural gas utilities, pipelines, or related energy infrastructure.
CA Professional Mechanical Engineer license required.
Experience with natural gas transmission or distribution systems, regulator stations, metering facilities, process piping, or pipeline facility design.
Experience preparing or reviewing engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, data sheets, and technical reports.
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASME B31.8/B31.3, API, ANSI, ISA, NFPA, NEC).
Understanding of engineering design development from scoping to startup and closeout.
Ability to interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, process flow diagrams, electrical schematics, control drawings, and vendor documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments across engineering disciplines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other standard applications.
Ability to travel to project sites and client offices.
Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with clients, project managers, operations personnel, and stakeholders to identify project needs and support execution.
Develop scoping documents, design criteria, engineering work plans, technical memoranda, proposals, and cost estimates.
Support design and modernization of natural gas facilities, including pipelines, regulator stations, and metering facilities.
Prepare designs for installation of gas control, automation, and real-time remote monitoring equipment.
Prepare and review drawings: PFDs, P&IDs, plots, layouts, and instrument loops.
Coordinate SCADA integration requirements and data exchange with field equipment and remote monitoring systems.
Support startup, commissioning, testing, and performance verification.
Mentor junior engineers and designers; promote safety culture.
Review vendor drawings, calculations, data sheets, specs, and test reports.
Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and change-order documentation.
