Job summary

Upchurch is seeking an experienced pipefitter to support its growing mechanical construction projects across the Southeastern U.S. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in commercial or industrial pipefitting, and hands-on expertise reading blueprints, P&IDs, and coordinating with other trades.

Responsibilities include selecting materials, fabricating and installing piping systems, and ensuring compliance with codes, safety, and project specs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of pipefitting experience in commercial/industrial mechanical construction.
• Completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
• Proficient reading blueprints, drawings, and P&IDs.
• Strong measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembling piping systems.
• Experience with HVAC, hydronic, refrigeration, and/or process piping.
• Knowledge of piping codes, installation standards, OSHA safety practices.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations and layout work accurately.
• Comfortable in confined spaces, at heights, and lifting 50+ pounds.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, spool sheets, P&IDs, and job specs.
• Plan installation sequencing and coordinate with other trades.
• Select pipe materials and sizes based on project requirements.
• Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, and assemble piping.
• Layout and install piping systems: carbon steel, stainless, copper, PVC, etc.
• Fit, align, and secure piping prior to welding or joining.
• Join piping using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, cemented, or welded methods.
• Install pipe supports and assist welders with prep and fit-up.
• Install/maintain mechanical systems: pumps, meters, controls.
• Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and leak testing; inspect worksites for safety.
