Job summary

HOERBIGER Positioning / PI (Physik Instrumente), LP, based in Shrewsbury, MA, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Piezo to design, develop, and optimize high-precision motion instruments from concept through production.

You will lead mechanical design, perform analyses, and ensure manufacturability and GD&T compliance. A BS in mechanical engineering is required; a Master’s is preferred; minimum five years in precision mechanical design is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or mechatronic systems.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; master's degree preferred.
• Experience releasing mechanical systems from concept through production in a product development environment.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
• Experience with precision manufacturing processes such as CNC machining and tight-tolerance fabrication.
• Familiarity with design control processes, PDM systems, and engineering change workflows.
• Experience with ISO 9001 or lean/5S principles.
• ITAR regulations require U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residents (Green Card), or protected individuals.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mechanical components, subassemblies, and system architectures for high-precision motion instruments across full product development cycles.
• Own mechanical design execution from concept through production release, including technical decision-making and design validation.
• Develop advanced 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and complete design documentation with precision tolerances and GD&T.
• Perform and lead engineering analysis including tolerance stack-ups and FFT? (use existing) and FEA to ensure performance and stability.
• Design precision mechanisms, motion systems, and opto-mechanical assemblies, including kinematic structures and thermally stable architectures.
• Oversee system-level integration, alignment, and performance verification, with emphasis on accuracy, repeatability, drift, and environmental sensitivity.
