Job summary

Hoerbiger Positioning / PI (Physik Instrumente), LP seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Piezo to design, develop, and optimize high-precision motion instruments from concept through production. You will create 3D CAD models, perform FEA, and lead prototype testing to ensure accuracy and reliability.

The role requires a minimum of five years’ experience in mechanical design, strong SolidWorks proficiency, and experience with precision manufacturing processes. Onsite at our Shrewsbury, MA office.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or mechatronic systems with precision motion experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required; master’s degree preferred.
• Solid proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) for complex assemblies and documentation.
• Experience with precision manufacturing processes and tight tolerances.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems; lean/5S knowledge.
• ITAR regulations require U.S. citizenship, permanent resident status, or protected individual status.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of mechanical components and systems for high-precision motion instruments.
• Own mechanical design execution from concept through production release with design validation.
• Create advanced 3D CAD models and complete design documentation with GD&T accuracy.
• Perform tolerance stack-ups, error budgets, and FEA to ensure performance and stability.
• Design precision mechanisms and monolithic flexures with phonically optimized structures.
• Lead prototype development, assembly, integration, and testing of motion systems.
