Job summary

King Edward VII’s Hospital is seeking an experienced Senior Physiotherapist to manage inpatient rehabilitation and post-surgical recovery. You will assess and treat patients across orthopaedics, respiratory care, general medicine and elderly care, with autonomy within a multidisciplinary team.

Weekend and late-shift work are part of the rota. You will also support outpatient services and Joint School as required, ensuring safe discharge and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physiotherapy.
• HCPC registration with current status.
• Membership of CSP.
• Post-registration inpatient rehab experience.
• Experience in orthopaedics and respiratory rehab.

Responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive physiotherapy assessments and develop individualised treatment plans.
• Deliver rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, gait re-education and respiratory therapy.
• Provide education and home exercise guidance to patients and families.
• Work with multidisciplinary team to support discharge.
• Maintain clinical records per hospital policy.
• Supervise junior staff and students.
• Coordinate inpatient physiotherapy activity and escalate concerns.
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and pathways.
• Work weekends and late shifts as required.
• Maintain competence to support outpatient/ aquatic therapy when needed.

Location: King Edward VII’s Hospital, London W1G 6AA

Permanent

As an Inpatient Senior Physiotherapist at King Edward VII's Hospital, you will provide safe, effective and patient-centred physiotherapy assessment and treatment for patients admitted to the Hospital. The role focuses on inpatient rehabilitation and post-surgical recovery across orthopaedics, respiratory care, general medicine, care of the elderly and post-operative pathways.

You will use sound clinical reasoning, clear communication and collaborative multidisciplinary working to support positive clinical outcomes, safe and timely discharge or transfer of care, and a high-quality patient experience. The role is primarily inpatient based however the post holder may also support outpatient physiotherapy, aquatic therapy and Joint School. Weekend and late-shift working forms part of departmental rota requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive physiotherapy assessments and develop individualised, evidence-based treatment plans that reflect clinical presentation, goals, risks and discharge needs.
• Deliver and evaluate rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, mobility practice, gait re-education, respiratory physiotherapy and the prescription of appropriate mobility aids.
• Provide clear education and guidance to patients and families, including home exercise programmes, precautions and self-management strategies.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support safe and timely discharge or transfer of care.
• Maintain accurate, timely and contemporaneous clinical records in line with Hospital policy and professional standards.
• Provide day-to-day support, guidance and appropriate supervision to junior staff, therapy assistants and students.
• Support coordination of inpatient physiotherapy activity when required, including appropriate delegation and escalation of concerns.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, service development and review of clinical pathways and protocols.
• Work weekends and late shifts as part of the departmental rota and respond flexibly to service requirements.
• Maintain appropriate competence to support outpatient physiotherapy, aquatic therapy and Joint School where required and within scope of practice.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent qualification, in Physiotherapy.
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
• Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
• Relevant post-registration physiotherapy experience, including demonstrable inpatient experience and evidence of working with an appropriate level of autonomy.
• Demonstrable experience of post-operative and orthopaedic rehabilitation, with appropriate respiratory and general medical physiotherapy skills.
• Strong clinical reasoning, prioritisation and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical supervision and continuing professional development.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends and late shifts in line with rota requirements and service needs.
