Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a professional medical coder with CPT/ICD-9 expertise to audit physician documentation and assign accurate CPT codes.

The role requires communication with physicians to correct deficiencies and the ability to present data to leadership. Qualified candidates hold CPC/CCS-P/CPMA certification, a high school diploma, and at least three years of coding experience, with strong EPIC/W complémentaires software skills in a hospital

Qualifications

• Certification in one of the following: CPC, CCS-P, or CPMA is required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three years of coding experience.
• Prior experience in Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding preferred.
• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding.
• Demonstrates proficiency in E/M coding with testing.
• Ability to use computer software (e.g., EPIC, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding systems.

Responsibilities

• Review and audit physicians’ documentation for CPT code accuracy.
• Determine visit, procedure, and diagnosis codes.
• Initiate corrections and resolve discrepancies.
• Educate physicians on documentation and coding deficiencies.
• Present audit findings to Division Heads and Clinical Practice Directors.
• Ensure timely submission of charges to billing services.
• Communicate with patients, payers, and billing staff to resolve questions.
