Job summary

Qualifications

  • DC PT license is required.
  • DPT or equivalent degree is required.
  • BLS certification is required; ACLS preferred.
  • Experience with EMR documentation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced evaluations and develop evidence-based treatment plans for complex inpatient cases.
  • Deliver individualized physical therapy interventions to optimize mobility, function, and safety.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams on patient care plans and discharge readiness.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical guidance to junior therapists, students, and support staff.
  • Document assessments, goals, and progress accurately in the EMR.
  • Participate in quality improvement, research, and academic initiatives within the hospital.
  • Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety, and functional goals.
  • Contribute to program development and implementation of best practices in acute care rehabilitation.

About the Employer

George Washington University Hospital seeks a Senior Physical Therapist to provide expert inpatient rehabilitation in a 395-bed academic medical center in Washington, DC. In this fast-paced, urban environment, you will manage complex, multi-system cases, perform comprehensive evaluations, and deliver evidence-based interventions to improve mobility, safety, and functional independence. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, mentor junior therapists and students, contribute to teaching and research initiatives, and participate in quality improvement projects while supporting a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced evaluations and develop evidence-based treatment plans for complex inpatient cases
  • Deliver individualized physical therapy interventions to optimize mobility, function, and safety
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams on patient care plans and discharge readiness
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical guidance to junior therapists, students, and support staff
  • Document assessments, goals, and progress accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement, research, and academic initiatives within the hospital
  • Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety, and functional goals
  • Contribute to program development and implementation of best practices in acute care rehabilitation
  • Inpatient acute care physical therapy
  • Complex patient assessment and differential diagnosis
  • Therapeutic exercise and neuromuscular re-education
  • Gait training and mobility training with assistive devices
  • Post-surgical and neurologic rehabilitation
  • Cardiopulmonary and ICU early mobility interventions

Requirements
  • Current DC Physical Therapist (PT) license
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Specialty board certification (e.g., NCS, OCS, GCS) preferred
  • Experience with EMR documentation systems
