Qualifications

  • Current DC Occupational Therapist license
  • NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR)
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Experience in acute care or inpatient rehabilitation
  • Experience with EMR systems (Epic)

Responsibilities

  • Occupational therapy evaluation and treatment for adults in acute care and inpatient rehab
  • ADL/IADL retraining and cognitive/perceptual rehabilitation
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, PT, SLP, and case management on care plans
  • Educate patients and families on home programs, safety and discharge planning
  • Document evaluations, goals, and progress in the EMR
  • Participate in teaching students/residents and clinical education initiatives
  • Contribute to quality improvement and program development in rehabilitation
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
  • Participate in weekend/holiday coverage and unit float as needed

Job description

George Washington University Hospital seeks an Occupational Therapist to join our 395-bed academic medical center in Washington, DC. In this fast-paced, urban environment you will evaluate and treat adults with complex medical, surgical, trauma, neuro, and critical care needs, using evidence-based interventions to improve function, safety, and independence. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team, participate in teaching and research, and support continuous learning while serving a diverse patient population using advanced technology and resources.

  • Evaluate patients’ functional status, cognition, and ADL/IADL performance using standardized assessments.
  • Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for diverse acute and rehab patients.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, PT, SLP, and case management on interdisciplinary care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on home programs, safety, equipment use, and discharge planning.
  • Document evaluations, goals, and progress notes in the EMR in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Recommend and train patients in adaptive equipment, splinting, and environmental modifications.
  • Participate in teaching of students and residents and support clinical education initiatives.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, research, and program development within rehabilitation services.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state practice acts, and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in weekend/holiday coverage and float to units based on patient care needs.
