Job summary

OpenAI seeks a senior Physical Design Engineer to join the Forward Deployed Engineering team. You will serve as the physical design SME, guiding backend implementation and EDA workflows for semiconductor deployments with customers and internal teams.

You will collaborate across design lifecycle activities, shaping AI-assisted design solutions, and mentoring the broader FDE organization in floorplanning, P&R, timing, and signoff. Remote-friendly with strong customer-facing opportunities.

Qualifications

• BS or MS with 5+ years in physical design, backend signoff, or related ASIC/SoC work.
• Hands-on experience with floorplanning, P&R, CTS, timing, power, signoff, and physical verification.
• Proficiency with standard EDA flows for synthesis, PNR, STA, and power analysis.

Responsibilities

• Serve as physical design SME for semiconductor deployments and customer engagements.
• Collaborate with FDE teams to translate customer needs into implementable design plans.
• Lead or advise on AI-assisted solutions across floorplanning, P&R, clocking, timing, and signoff.
