Job description

About us:

Aeva’s mission is to bring the next wave of perception to a broad range of applications from automated driving to industrial robotics, consumer electronics, consumer health, security, and beyond. Aeva is transforming autonomy with its groundbreaking sensing and perception technology that integrates all key LiDAR components onto a silicon photonics chip in a compact module. Aeva 4D LiDAR sensors uniquely detect instant velocity in addition to 3D position, allowing autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to make more intelligent and safe decisions.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Photonics Design Automation and Layout Engineer to join our core silicon photonics development team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in layout automation, PDK management, physical verification, and infrastructure management. You will develop and deploy automation workflows and infrastructure for photonic integrated circuit designs and tape-outs.

What you'll do
  • Drive development activities including schematic-driven layout and design, P-cell development, PDK management, and physical verifications.
  • Select and implement software tools for photonics simulation and layout.
  • Develop the roadmap for photonics design automation.
  • Collaborate with design, process, and test teams to develop CAD infrastructure that meets DfX requirements and foundry design rules.
  • Manage in-house photonic component models and layout libraries with revision control and regression testing.
What you have
  • 10+ years of experience in IC layout and design automation, preferably in photonics.
  • Strong understanding of CAD development areas including simulation/layout automation, PDK development, physical verification (LVS/DRC), and infrastructure management.
  • Expertise in P-cell development, LVS/DRC run-set creation, source control, and regression testing.
  • Proficiency with commercial photonics layout software such as Cadence, Synopsys, Luceda, and Klayout.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication processes.
  • Experience managing source code and libraries.
  • Proficiency in Python and Linux shell scripting.
Nice to have
  • Experience with analog and mixed-signal layout.
  • Knowledge of silicon photonics and optoelectronic device physics.
  • Familiarity with simulation software from Synopsys, Cadence, Luceda, and Ansys.
What's in it for you
  • Be part of a fast-paced, dynamic team.
  • Competitive salary and stock options.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision.
  • Unlimited PTO and flexible work policies.
Salary ranges are from $154,000 to $209,000 annually, determined by role, experience, and location. Compensation may include equity, bonuses, and other benefits, along with health and retirement plans.
