Job summary

Monarch Quantum, Inc. in Boston seeks a Photonics Test Automation & Measurement Engineer to own hands-on characterization of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) in our Boston office.

You will build and run free-space and fiber-coupled optical setups, align modes, and develop Python-based automated test infrastructure to measure device performance accurately and repeatably. This role emphasizes bench work, coupling optimization, and turning manual procedures into robust automated test systems,

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics.
• Hands-on measurement experience with photonic devices or PICs.
• Experience with free-space and fiber coupling to chips.
• Proficiency in Python for automation and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Characterize photonic integrated circuits (PICs) on bench and wafer scale.
• Build and maintain free-space optical setups for coupling light to PICs.
• Perform fiber-to-chip and free-space-to-chip coupling, including alignment.
• Image mode profiles and analyze beam and coupling efficiency.
• Develop automated test infrastructure and data analysis pipelines in Python.
• Apply statistics to qualify test systems and ensure repeatable measurements.
• Document test procedures, setups, and results for teams.
• Contribute to photonic design and simulation using Lumerical, Tidy3D, COMSOL, or gdsfactory.
