Job description

Summary:

Gateway Healthcare Inc. includes three affiliates: The Autism Project (TAP), Capital City Community Center, and FRIENDS WAY (FW). The development department supports their work through philanthropy efforts in annual appeals, grants, events, and major gifts.

The Senior Philanthropy Officer (SPO) will be part of a passionate team working to improve the lives of children and families affected by autism and grief, seniors, and financially challenged families. The ideal candidate will have excellent strategic relationship-building and communication skills, be results-oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively, and have a proven track record in securing major gifts. An understanding of best practices in fundraising and the ability to prioritize are essential for success. The SPO will work closely with the Executive Directors of TAP, FW, and Cap City, along with the boards of directors and staff, to develop goals, strategies, and both long- and short-term plans to organize and implement fundraising efforts. The primary focus of this position is to develop a major gifts program, mentor and manage staff, and oversee all aspects of the development program.

Responsibilities:
  1. Creation and Oversight of Department Structure: Staffing, hiring, and management of staff.
  2. Collaboration: Work with administration, program staff, board of directors to raise awareness and secure resources for the organization’s future.
  3. Development Planning and Implementation: Execute annual plans to secure funding from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies, focusing on major gifts.
  4. Major Gift Fundraising: Identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship in coordination with and supporting the Executive Director.
  5. Event Management: Planning and executing events, including engaging sponsorship support, with support from the Senior Development Associate.
  6. Budget Management: Oversee the department’s budget.
  7. Culture of Philanthropy: Foster a culture of stewardship, accountability, and trust with donors within the organization and community.
  8. Strategic Planning: Provide insights and guidance on development implications for new initiatives.
  9. Policies and Procedures: Develop and maintain department policies.
  10. Reporting: Ensure appropriate reporting for leadership and boards.
  11. Event Attendance: Attend events to provide on-site management and supervision.
  12. Additional Hours: Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Experience with budget and grant management, and all aspects of development
  • Experience with CRM systems, preferably Raisers Edge
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products
