Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks an experienced Pharmacy Technician for its Inpatient Pharmacy team. You will support medication distribution, unit dose dispensing, IV admixture preparation, and sterile product handling in a high-demand hospital setting.

The ideal candidate holds a High School Diploma, a current Texas Pharmacy Technician Registration, and at least two years in inpatient pharmacy, including one year of sterile compounding.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Active Texas Pharmacy Technician Registration with TSBP.
Two years of inpatient pharmacy experience, incl. sterile compounding.

Responsibilities

Medications preparation and distribution across the unit.
Fill cart fills and first doses accurately and promptly.
Pull medications to refill controlled access cabinets.
Deliver meds and supplies to designated areas.
Prepare sterile products (SVP/LVP, chemo, biotherapy, investigational).
Perform high-risk sterile compounding with safety protocols.
Nonsterile compounding when required.
Repackage bulk medications for distribution.
Maintain medication security and accountability at all times.
Monitor inventory, perform cycle counts, and restock as needed.
Identify shortages and notify appropriate personnel.

Job description

Our Inpatient Pharmacy team delivers comprehensive and high-quality medication distribution services across the hospital. We manage all aspects of inpatient drug delivery - including unit dose dispensing, IV admixture preparation, and specialized systems for controlled substances and investigational drugs. We leverage advanced automation and robotic dispensing technology to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and patient safety in every step of the process.

The ideal candidate will possess a High School Diploma and hold a current Pharmacy Technician Registration. In addition, candidates should have at least two (2) years of experience in an Inpatient pharmacy setting, including a minimum of one (1) year of hands‑on experience with sterile compounding.

The working hours for this position will be a Evening shift - 7:00a - 3:30p - 40 hr. work week

Requirements

Education

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

License/Certification

Required: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Preferred: Current Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Current Intravenous Medication Certification (IV‑Sterile Products) approved by the Accreditation Counsel for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

Experience

Required: Two years pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, infusion center, or retail pharmacy.

Preferred: Experience in hazardous sterile compounding, high risk sterile compounding, nonsterile compounding, inventory management, and Pharmacy employee training. Experience in OR, critical care, pediatrics, ordering/receiving medications, and controlled substances.

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
