Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center's Pharmacy Division in Houston is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support safe, efficient medication use and patient-centered care in a high-volume cancer center. The ideal candidate holds a High School Diploma or equivalent, has completed a Pharmacy Technician program, and maintains current Texas State Board of Pharmacy registration.

Preference is given to candidates with at least one year of Pharmacy Technician experience and onsite

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician program is required.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) is required upon hire.
  • PHI - Pharmacist Intern License with the TSBP is required upon hire.
  • CPHT - Certified Pharmacy Technician certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors inventory and replenishes supplies as needed.
  • Notifies personnel for shortages or outages.
  • Ensures medication security and accountability at all times.
  • Checks for expired products and documents waste.
  • Uses Pyxis and Pharmogistics inventory systems.
  • Pulls drugs to refill cabinets and anesthesia stations.
  • Completes cycle counts and handles floor stock orders.
  • Follows regulatory guidelines to access patient procedure areas.

Ideal candidate

Will have High School Diploma and completion of a Pharmacy Technician program. Highly Prefer at least one year of Pharmacy Technician experience. Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)

Working Hours

Working hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Inventory Management
  • a. Monitors area inventory and supplies, and replenishes as needed
  • b. Notifies appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages noted
  • c. Ensures medication security and accountability at all times
  • d. Monitors for and checks expired products and document waste appropriately
  • e. Utilizes basic inventory systems (e.g. Pyxis and Pharmogistics)
  • f. Accurately and efficiently pulls drugs to refill controlled access cabinets and anesthesia stations
  • g. Completes cycle counts in carousel
  • h. Orders, receives, repacks, fills and delivers floor stock orders
  • i. Follows all regulatory guidelines to access patient procedure areas
  • j. Follows proper procedure to relocate controlled access cabinets
  • k. Promptly responds to and investigates temperature excursion alerts (i.e. Aeroscout)
  • l. Follows loan and borrow workflow
Area Maintenance
  • a. always Maintains clean and organized work area
  • b. Ensures anteroom, sterile compounding rooms, and drug storage areas are properly cleaned and stocked
  • c. Completes assigned QA tasks
  • d. Properly handles hazardous drug spills
  • e. Understands and follows downtime procedures
EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: None
  • Preferred: At least one year of Pharmacy Technician experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: PHTR - Reg Pharmacy Technician Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). Upon Hire or
  • Required: PHI - Pharmacist Intern License with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: CPHT - Certified Pharmacy Technician Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
