Job summary

MD Anderson Cancer Center's Ambulatory Treatment Center Pharmacy team seeks a Pharmacy Technician with experience in sterile preparation and IV admixtures. You’ll support high-volume infusion therapies and complex chemotherapy, working closely with clinical staff to ensure safe, accurate medication delivery for same-day treatments.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma, 2 years of pharmacy technician experience, and ideally ACPE IV Sterile Products certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: ACPE IV Sterile Products competency.
• Two years of Pharmacy Technician experience in healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with nurses and physicians to ensure timely, accurate medication delivery for same-day treatments.
• Prepare hazardous and non-hazardous sterile preparations following SOPs and safety standards.

Ideal Candidate

• High School Diploma and 2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience in a retail, infusion, or hospital setting.
• Preferred: at least one year of IV sterile preparation experience and ACPE IV Sterile Products Competency.

Working Hours

The working hours are 12:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Senior Tech Proficiencies
Sterile Compounding / Preparation

Demonstrates proficiency—meeting accuracy and productivity standards—in:

• Hazardous and non-hazardous sterile preparation.
• Investigational drug preparation (Phase 1, 2, and 3).
• Viral/BCG/vaccine preparation.
• Intrathecal preparations.
• Ambulatory pumps.
• High-risk sterile validation.

IV Preparation

• Follows all SOPs and safety standards (USP 797, USP 800, NIOSH) when handling, preparing, and disposing of hazardous drugs.
• Reports and documents chemotherapy spills.
• Demonstrates correct use of a closed system and maintains competency.
• Prepares investigational doses by:
  • Reading the datasheet.
  • Following protocol directions.
  • Exercising care during admixing.
  • Documenting thoroughly on investigational cards.
  • Consulting a pharmacist when needed.
• Completes annual or semi-annual process validations.
• Demonstrates strong pharmacy math skills.
• Manages time efficiently with high productivity.
• Maintains system proficiency, including:
  • BD Cato.
  • Phacts.
  • OneConnect.
  • Controlled access cabinets.

Education

• Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Preferred: Certificate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Preferred: Two years of college credit.

Work Experience

• Required: 2 years Pharmacy Technician experience in a hospital, infusion center, or retail pharmacy.

Licenses and Certifications

• Required: PHTR - Reg Pharmacy Technician Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). Upon Hire.
• Preferred: CPHT - Certified Pharmacy Technician Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Upon Hire.
• Preferred: Current Intravenous Medication Certification (IV‑Sterile Products) approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). Upon Hire.
