Job summary

St. Mary's Hospital - Kankakee is seeking a Senior Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in daily pharmacy operations. The role spans inpatient and retail areas, with opportunities to work on IV and hazardous drug processes in inpatient settings.

Candidates should hold a valid State Pharmacy Technician license and CPhT, with 4+ years in the field; additional certifications and 340B experience are preferred. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and dayshift schedule.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • State Pharmacy Technician License/Registration is required.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential is required (may be waived for current pharmacy students).
  • At least 4 years of pharmacy technician experience in the current practice area preferred.
  • Additional certifications in relevant areas of practice through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred (i.e., CSPT, Nonsterile Compounding, Supply Chain, Immunizations, and Inventory Management, etc.)
  • Graduate of ASHP-accredited or equivalent pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • 340B program experience preferred (if at a 340B facility).

  • In inpatient areas, the Senior Pharmacy Technician may be trained in intravenous and/or hazardous drug compounding, is regularly staffed as an IV admixture or chemotherapy admixture pharmacy technician or in advanced operational areas (e.g. controlled substance distribution, ADC replenishment), and also regularly assists Pharmacy Leadership with quality assurance projects, controlled substance monitoring and auditing, and regulatory compliance monitoring and auditing. Serves as a designated trainer for new pharmacy technicians.
  • For retail areas, the Senior Pharmacy Technician provides expert-level support to pharmacists, performing specialized tasks that require advanced certification. In addition to QA, auditing, and training oversight, the Senior Pharmacy Technician manages higher-level responsibilities, including advanced technical procedures and ensuring workflow efficiency within the pharmacy.

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $20.45 to $30.68.
