Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. in Atlanta is seeking a Senior Performance Engineer to own performance for our derivatives trading platform—order entry, matching engine, and market data distribution. This hands-on role focuses on profiling, testing, and diagnosing latency to drive improvements in production systems.

You will design workload models, run campaigns, and collaborate with developers to root out bottlenecks. AI tooling will accelerate analysis while you validate all results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years in performance engineering and testing.
• Experience designing workload models and executing performance tests against distributed, multi-tier systems using tools such as JMeter, Gatling, k6, or LoadRunner.
• Experience diagnosing performance problems in latency-sensitive systems using profilers and system tooling (e.g., perf, eBPF/bpftrace, async-profiler, JFR, flame graphs, Intel VTune).
• A rigorous statistical approach to measurement and defending results.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end performance validation for segments of the trading platform (order entry, matching engine, market data paths).
• Design and execute load, stress, and capacity test suites in pre-production and production-like environments.
• Profile services to identify bottlenecks across CPU, memory, I/O, threading, GC, network, and DB; work with teams to resolve.
• Establish and maintain production performance baselines and identify degradation.
• Investigate latency and capacity events in production; produce root cause analyses and corrective actions.
• Contribute to capacity planning and infrastructure sizing based on measured behavior and growth.
• Plan and execute non-functional testing (resiliency, failover, scalability) ~20% of time.
• Document methodology, results, and findings for engineering, audit, and regulatory review.
• Contribute to shared tooling and measurement practice.
