Job summary

FieldAI’s Irvine team designs and deploys embodied AI for real robots and field sensing, delivering risk-aware, field-ready AI systems in Southern California’s robotics ecosystem. You will own perception systems end-to-end, from design to on-robot deployment, collaborating with planning, autonomy, and field engineering teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on development with LiDAR and vision data, 3D perception, and multi-sensor fusion, balancing rapid product development with long‑term reliability.

Qualifications

• Experience deploying perception systems on real robotic platforms.
• Strong C++ software development with production-quality code.
• Experience with LiDAR and vision sensors for 3D perception in real-world robotics.
• Background in autonomous systems or field robotics.
• Experience debugging perception subsystems end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy perception systems for autonomous robots operating in complex real-world environments
• Develop new perception capabilities leveraging existing model outputs
• Work extensively with LiDAR and vision data, focusing on 3D perception and geometric reasoning
• Develop and integrate multi-sensor perception algorithms
• Partner closely with planning and autonomy teams to define perception outputs for downstream decision-making
• Debug perception and system-level issues in the field
• Bring algorithms to physical robots, profiling and optimizing under real compute, latency, and environmental constraints
• Continuously evaluate and improve perception performance through offline evaluation, simulation, and on-robot testing
• Solve long-tail and safety-critical perception challenges with scalable data pipelines
• Ensure model quality across releases with evaluation methodologies and regression detection
• Improve robustness, scalability, and maintainability of the perception stack
