Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks a Phlebotomist I to collect blood from patients using venipuncture and capillary methods, ensuring correct patient verification and accurate labeling.

The role supports the lab with timely specimen handling and collaboration with clinicians. You will work with EMR and hospital computer systems, participate in training, and uphold safety standards in a fast-paced pediatric environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; ASCP PBT or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years as Phlebotomist I or equivalent with CLA Senior competencies.
  • Basic knowledge of medical/laboratory terminology.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to use hospital computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain blood specimens using venipuncture or capillary techniques with patient identification.
  • Label specimens accurately and manage orders and reporting in the EMR system.
  • Train new staff and participate in competencies and continuing education.
  • Maintain professional appearance and ensure safety and quality within the lab.
