Job summary

Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks a Phlebotomist I for rotating shifts at Streeterville, Chicago. Performs venipuncture and related procedures, works with EMR and LIS, and supports QA goals and patient service excellence.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, phlebotomy training, and national phlebotomy certification (ASCP/NHA/NPA) with completion within 6 months of hire. Shifts may start early and end late to meet laboratory needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Formal training as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist required, successful completion of phlebotomist competencies.
• Certification in phlebotomy must be obtained within 6 months of hire and kept current.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood specimens from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture and specialized procedures.
• Verify orders and diagnosis codes with ordering physician as needed.
• Release orders from EMR/LIS, print labels and forms, and identify patients with two identifiers.
• Schedule appointments and manage check-in/out procedures and end-of-session audits in EMR system.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure clean, organized work areas.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff; participate in ongoing training and compliance.
