Job summary

John Deere is seeking a Senior PE Control System Engineer to drive advanced electric drive controls from component to system level in Fargo, ND (onsite). Location: Fargo, ND or Cary, NC with visa sponsorship not available.

The role requires 4+ years in power electronics or control algorithms, strong modeling/simulation skills, and experience with HIL, lab, and field testing. Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in power electronics or drivetrain control is expected.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years in advanced power electronics and/or control algorithm development
  • Experience with simulation tools for power electronics or electric drives
  • 3+ years hands-on power electronics and/or drivetrain testing (HIL, lab, field)
  • English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Research experience in academia considered

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced electric drive controls for component and system levels
  • Validate and deliver controls software via code development, HIL validation, dyno testing, and field integration
  • Conduct eDrive and vehicle system simulation for feature development and performance assessment
  • Interface with stakeholders to define control system requirements for electrification solutions

Your Responsibilities

As a Senior PE Control System Engineer located in Fargo, ND or Cary, NC, you will:



  • Develop advanced electric drive controls solutions at both component and system levels for a broad range of applications

  • Validate and deliver controls software through code development, HIL validation, dyno testing, and field integration support

  • Conduct advanced eDrive and vehicle system simulation to support features development and vehicle performance assessment

  • Interface with stakeholders to develop control system requirements that support vehicle electrification solutions.

  • Mentor other control and software developers in design, modeling, coding, and testing practices.

  • 4 or more years of experience for advanced power electronics and/or control algorithm development

  • Demonstrated Experience with simulation tools for power electronics or electric drives

  • 3 or more years of hands‑on power electronics and/or drivetrain testing experience(HIL, lab, field)

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (English)

  • Relevant research experience in academic institutes will be equally considered


What Makes You Stand Out


  • Advanced degree with a focus on power electronics and/or control system development

  • Experience with advanced electric motor control, dc/dc converter, grid-tied inverter, energy storage integration and vehicle power management

  • Experience with Hardware-in-Loop system

  • Experience with advanced control systems and techniques such as observer, model predictive control, etc.

  • Experience with advanced digital signal processing schemes such as filter design

  • Experience with FPGA or embedded software development

  • Experience with advanced research topics

  • Experience with power electronics hardware design


Education


  • Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Minimum of Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on power electronics and/or drivetrain control system. PhD degree is preferred.
