Job description

Looking for your next career move? Our hardware platform team is growing its PCB Layout capabilities! We seek a creative Senior PCB Layout Engineer with good attention to detail to join Arm’s Hardware Platforms team to create layouts for our physical hardware development platforms used to evaluate Arm's custom system-on-chip (SoC) and reference designs. These are used for software development and validation activities for external partners/customers and internal development teams. The team is working at the forefront of embedded compute focusing on Arm's silicon products.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with hardware design teams across multiple projects to develop complex and innovative designs, from mechanical and thermal requirements, footprint creation and component placement to optimising power planes and routing of high-speed parallel and serial signals. Finalise designs to deliver data packs (ODB++, Gerber, Fabrication and Assembly drawings and BOMs). You will utilise and develop your skills to design PCBs for sophisticated compute platforms to meet the requirements of the project team and customers whilst ensuring efficient performance and manufacturability.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Experience of designing complex, impedance controlled multi-layer (>20), conventional and HDI PCBs with very high pin count devices (>2000), high-speed interfaces (PCIe and DDR), differential pairs, including accommodating high-current PDNs
  • Experience of collaborating with a chip packaging team. Able to advise on pinout and routing topologies of high-density SoCs, cost optimisation and layer trade-off analysis
  • Detailed knowledge of escape routing of high density SoC's, FPGAs, able to provide estimates of the IO count that can be routed with a particular stack-up and rule set
  • Appreciation of Signal Integrity and Power Integrity as applicable to routing strategies
  • Extensive knowledge of the PCB fabrication process (conventional and sequential), IPC standards and stackup topologies, substrate materials, via structures and design rules
  • Proficient in the use of EDA Tools, specifically Cadence OrCAD CIS and Allegro PCB
  • Ability to collaborate with PCB fabricators and CEMs for DFM/DFT and automated assembly. Ensure designs are aligned with supplier capabilities and best practise
  • Good interpersonal skills. Participate in reviews, providing advice to engineers relating to design rules, PCB fabrication and substrate technologies
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:
  • Certified Interconnect Designer (CID, CID+)
  • Experience with schematic entry for symbol and creation and updates from design reviews
  • Experience of automating: decoupling capacitor optimisation, IC placement optimisation, templates etc.
In Return:

You will gain a deeper understanding of high-performance compute platforms. Work alongside other engineering teams including hardware, packaging, SoC implementation, collaborating and enabling engineers and designers. You'll be working with highly talented and motivated colleagues in a friendly encouraging environment. Extending your board level design expertise, producing high quality PCB designs incorporating Arm IP, you will enjoy new technical challenges faced when using advancing technologies!

Salary Range:

$198,100-$268,000 per year

We value people as individuals and our dedication is to reward people competitively and equitably for the work they do and the skills and experience they bring to Arm. Salary is only one component of Arm's offering. The total reward package will be shared with candidates during the recruitment and selection process.
