Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Payroll Senior Specialist to own U.S. and Puerto Rico payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing. You will partner with ADP, manage governance, and drive automation to improve controls and efficiency.

The role requires strong knowledge of payroll regulations, year-end activities, and experience with outsourced payroll environments. A hybrid work arrangement is supported.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in human resources, business or related discipline.
• Experience with ADP payroll services, payroll tax services, garnishment administration, year-end processing, and payroll governance.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, local, and Puerto Rico payroll regulations and tax compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting vendor relationships, SLAs, governance, and escalation management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee US and Puerto Rico payroll operations ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
• Manage payroll production schedules, calendars, and critical processing activities.
• Escalate complex payroll issues and respond to employee inquiries promptly.
• Act as liaison for ADP operations, governance, and optimization initiatives.
• Monitor ADP performance metrics, SLAs, and service trends.
• Lead process improvements and automation opportunities in payroll.
