Job description

Join to apply for the Senior Payroll Tax Analyst role at Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC.

The Senior Payroll Tax Analyst will own the processes to audit and balance all payroll-related activities and tax reporting to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local tax jurisdictions across 12 legal entities and all 50 states. Serve as a subject matter expert for complex payroll tax issues and lead research and resolution of discrepancies and escalations in partnership with outside vendors. Maintain knowledge of legislative changes impacting taxation and reporting. Lead responses to tax escalations and work with payroll specialists and the call center. Review employee tax data for accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Balance payroll and tax reporting processes independently and resolve issues as needed.
  2. Lead processing of tax payments outside vendor responsibilities.
  3. Ensure all balancing complies with SOX controls and serve as an escalation point for G&L account reconciliation issues. Collaborate with Finance to research and correct open items.
  4. Audit employee data and processes to correct tax setups. Partner with HR Systems to address system issues impacting taxation or employee records. Manage State Tax Mobility processing through direct communication with employees and contribute to annual state mobility events. Guide India-based Payroll Specialists on taxation issues and implement process changes for compliance.
  5. Respond to legislative changes by collaborating with third-party administrators like ADP and jurisdiction authorities for complex issues. Lead corrections to wage and tax information based on audits and tax rules.
  6. Participate in the annual payroll year-end process and other key payroll projects.
  7. Stay current on industry changes, advise plan owners on taxation and reporting requirements, and coordinate system and process updates.
  8. Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing when necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience handling various payroll matters including equity awards, payroll adjustments, etc.
  • Strong research and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-changing environment
  • Experience working with external payroll vendors
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
  • Knowledge of payroll tax laws at federal and multi-state levels
  • Experience with federal, state, and local payroll tax reporting
  • Experience with Workday payroll and outsourced services
  • Experience in a global organization

Compensation & Benefits

The estimated base salary is $65,400 - $88,200 annually, with potential bonuses and incentives. We offer comprehensive benefits including vacation, sick leave, 401(k), health, dental, and life insurances.
