Job summary

WMATA is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to oversee complex payroll operations across a large, diverse workforce. You will ensure compensation accuracy, oversee compliance with collective bargaining agreements, and act as a payroll expert in grievance and arbitration settings.

The role requires leadership, analytical problem-solving, and collaboration with Human Resources, Labor Relations, and legal stakeholders to research and validate payroll actions.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and the Authority's overall accounting operations.
• Understanding of current collective bargaining agreements and policies affecting payroll.
• Comprehensive knowledge of payroll best practices; federal, state, and local laws.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point of escalation for payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies, providing prompt resolution.
• Supervises, reviews work, trains, and guides lower level payroll staff to ensure pay document accuracy and policy compliance.
• Processes and analyzes weekly and biweekly payrolls, balances and controls, and investigates out-of-balance conditions.
• Develops metrics to assess payroll processes and report successes/deficiencies, proposing improvements.
• Coordinates,Develops, maintains documentation and forms on payroll procedures for reference and training.
• Prepares WMATA-wide training on accounting for financial transactions and year-end processes.
