Senior Payroll Strategist — Multi-State & Union Payroll

Job summary

RealREPP in Los Angeles is seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant to manage end-to-end multi-state payroll with emphasis on accuracy and regulatory compliance. You will process weekly and off-cycle payrolls, handle changes, and ensure timely filings while supporting internal departments and external customers.

The ideal candidate has 5-8 years of experience in payroll, strong analytical and communication skills, and a proven ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience preferred.
• 5-8 years of payroll experience, full-cycle payroll processing and with multi-state payrolls.
• In-depth understanding of payroll practices, tax regulations, and wage and hour laws.
• Experience with large payroll software (e.g., Coins, ADP, Dayforce, UKG or In-House/Non-Outsourced processing software.)
• Coins ERP software knowledge preferred.
• Prior experience with processing Union (Collective Bargaining Agreement) payrolls, and Prevailing Wage and Certified payroll reports is a plus.
• Experience with external audits.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task.
• Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize EXCEL, MS Word, Power Point, Access, etc.
• Strong analytical skills. Attention to detail and accuracy and innovative problem-solving resolution skills.
• Good verbal, written and active listening communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and service-oriented skills in interactions with customers and colleagues. An ability to interface with all levels of employees.
• Strong Team collaboration skills, and the ability to function as a member of a team. Able to transfer knowledge to junior level staff
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Intermediate accounting knowledge.
• Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
• Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment

Responsibilities

• Process accurate and timely payroll transactions and maintain multi-state records.
• Assist with processing weekly multi-state Union and Non-Union payrolls.
• Enter working hours, wages, bonuses, adjustments; handle changes and off-cycle payrolls.
• Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports; track garnishments and other deductions.
• Conduct regular audits to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
• Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate reports.
• Assist with inquiries from external/internal audits.
• Mentor junior payroll staff and support payroll training.
• Maintain payroll systems and records; collaborate with IT/HR to resolve issues.
