Job summary

LiveKit is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to own US and international payroll end-to-end, including Canada and the EU, and to manage payroll tax filings across jurisdictions. You’ll oversee PEO/EOR relationships, coordinate with People/Talent and accounting on hires and terminations, and support equity administration in Carta for the board.

You will be the internal expert on payroll, flag tax/legal/compliance risks, and ensure on-time, accurate payroll for a distributed, global workforce.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience running both US and international payroll, including Canada and/or the EU.
• Experience managing payroll tax filings directly, not just handing them off to a provider.
• Experience with multi-state US payroll for a remote, distributed team.
• Strong experience working within PEO and/or EOR structures.
• Familiarity with startup-focused platforms such as Rippling, Deel, Remote, or similar.
• Comfort working independently as the subject-matter expert, flagging tax, legal, and compliance risk before it becomes a problem.

Responsibilities

• Run US and international payroll end to end, from collecting inputs to final reconciliation.
• Own all associated payroll tax filings, domestic and international, and keep us compliant and on time.
• Manage our PEO and EOR relationships, and know where their responsibility ends and yours begins.
• Reconcile payroll to the general ledger each cycle and support month-end close.
• Build and maintain our payroll calendar, processes, and documentation as payroll moves into Finance.
• Partner with People/Talent and accounting on new hires, changes, terminations, and month-end reconciliation.
• Support equity administration in Carta and equity reporting for the board.
• Be the go-to contact for payroll questions internally and for auditor requests externally.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Payroll Specialist at LiveKit, you will:

• Run US and international payroll end to end, from collecting inputs to final reconciliation

Who You Are

• Hands-on experience running both US and international payroll, including Canada and/or the EU
• Experience managing payroll tax filings directly, not just handing them off to a provider
• Experience with multi-state US payroll for a remote, distributed team
• Strong experience working within PEO and/or EOR structures
• Familiarity with startup-focused platforms such as Rippling, Deel, Remote, or similar
• Comfort working independently as the subject-matter expert, juggling many moving pieces and flagging tax, legal, and compliance risk before it becomes a problem

Nice to Have

• CPP, FPC, or a similar payroll certification
• Experience moving payroll in-house, switching providers, or migrating an HRIS
• Experience with equity administration in Carta
• Experience at a fast-growing company with a distributed, international team
• You've personally caught a payroll error before anyone else did, and you still think about it fondly
