Job summary

City of Memphis is seeking a Payroll Specialist to maintain and process the city’s payroll system. You will handle entries from personnel forms, antiicipate and apply various payroll deductions, and ensure accurate time entry for multiple divisions.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least two years of experience; familiarity with W-4/W-5 forms and Oracle is a plus. This position operates within the Finance Division in Memphis, TN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in any related field and two years’ experience required.
• Alternatively, any combination of education and experience that enables one to perform job functions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain current payroll system and enter entries from personnel forms.
• Manage payroll deductions and benefits entries (deferred compensation, union dues, etc.).
• Validate and process time entries and act as backup timekeeper.
• Research and reissue past W-2 and check stub information.
• Issue stop payments and recall direct deposits for errors.
• Coordinate with other divisions and external agencies on payroll inquiries.
