Job summary

BDO USA seeks an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee end-to-end payroll operations for 1,000+ employees across multiple locations and states. You will lead a payroll team, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and partner with HR, Finance, and leadership to maintain accurate compensation processing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including supervisory responsibility.
• Experience processing multi-state, multi-location payroll for 500+ employees.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state wage/hour laws and payroll tax compliance.
• Proficiency with a major payroll/HRIS platform.
• Experience administering 401(k) and employee benefits and supporting audits.
• Advanced Excel skills (Pivot, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, reconciliation).

Responsibilities

• Oversee bi-weekly/semi-monthly payroll processing for 1,000+ employees across locations and states.
• Lead, train, and mentor payroll staff to drive accountability and accuracy.
• Review payroll runs and ensure accuracy of hours, earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings.
• Develop payroll processing calendars and deadlines across pay groups.
• Escalate complex payroll issues and respond to employee pay inquiries.
• Manage 401(k) and other benefits interactions with payroll processes and audits.
• Coordinate with Accounting/Finance on journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Participate in annual audits and understand multi-entity and acquisition-related payroll needs.
